Record Vote Possible In Detroit Primary
Detroit voters chose mayoralty candidates and considered a loyalty amendment in the fall primary. Officials predicted a possible record turnout near 360,000 if weather holds, with 1937’s 330,974 peak noted. Incumbent Eugene I. Van Antwerp faced ten rivals, including Albert E. Cobo, George Edwards and Richard T. Frankensteen, amid a labor influenced race. A loyalty commission proposal would set up a five member board to inquire into city employe affiliations.
