Florida Phone Firm Out Of Step With Dividend Freeze
The Cost of Living Council praised most firms for cutting dividend increases but condemned Florida Telephone Corp of Ocala as the sole holdout. Treasury Secretary Connally said the firm refused to roll back a 14 cent per share dividend set to take effect December 20, despite Nixon's wage price freeze. The council noted six companies were reviewed. National Propane Corp and Volume Shoe Corp did not violate guidelines, while Briggs and Stratton, Martin Vale Industries, and Selas Corp rolled back future dividends. The wage-price freeze excludes dividends but Nixon urged voluntary restraint.
