Nude man on Vandalia runway struck by United DC6

Authorities identify Ed ward Jalbert 25 of Vandalia as the nude man killed on a runway at Cox Municipal Airport. Pilot Donald Anderson said he saw the man center runway head down and tried to gain altitude but struck him with the plane nose wheel. The coroner has not issued a verdict. The chase plane continued to Chicago after brief crew questioning.

B52s Strike North Vietnamese Guns as Marines Face Ground Fights

US B52 bombers hit artillery and rocket launchers in the DMZ to shield Marines in northern South Vietnam. Fighter-bombers pounded near the Chinese border and a rail yard. Communists fired rockets at Con Thien and engaged allied troops in Quang Ngai Province. MIGs and anti aircraft fire met American jets above the DMZ.

Tanks Hurl 150 Feet At Dayton Oxygen Plant Fire

A devastating blaze at the Burdett Oxygen Co. plant in North Dayton caused $200 000 in damage as acetylene tanks exploded hurling debris up to 150 feet. Layoffs From Ford Strike Reach Suppliers Across Nation

The UAW strike against Ford Motor Co. has halted work for 160,000 Ford workers in 25 states and begun to ripple through suppliers. Budd Co. laid off about 1,000 of 5,000 at a Philadelphia plant while Dana Corp. reduced 800 at Detroit suburbs frame plants. Another 1,000 jobs were at risk at Raybestos-Manhattan plants in Passaic New Jersey as talks to reset bargaining dates proceed.

Biosatellite 2 mission reports plant growth in zero gravity

NASA says Biosatellite 2 operated on its second full day in space exposing living organisms to artificial radiation and near weightlessness. The 280 pound capsule, launched from Cape Kennedy, will reenter near Hawaii on its 46th orbit and be recovered midair for delivery to NASA facilities.
