Lamar McLean, 19, built a five story treehouse in a 40 foot ficus after dropping out of school. Inspectors call it a fire and safety hazard and illegal structure amid neighbor complaints of loud rock music. McLean vows to defy tear down orders, saying he loves his home and others are just jealous.
President Carter avoids predicting success or failure at the Camp David talks with Israel's Prime Minister Begin and Egypt's President Sadat. He notes deep differences over key issues and pledges flexibility and private talks in a secluded setting as Sadat and Begin arrive for the summit.

Nashville police say Kenneth Taylor 37 of North Lima Ohio confessed to killing 17 people across Tennessee Ohio and Pennsylvania over two years. He described a Nashville spree planned with intent to die, gave times and places but few dates, and linked a prior homicide in Boardman Ohio. Authorities charged him with murder armed robbery and auto theft.
