A desolate two story house off Ohio 122 near Red Lion draws repeated attention as locals and investigators report strange noises. Two police officers and several witnesses heard slow footsteps upstairs with no one present. The crumbling site features a dirt cellar and tales of a suicide and two transients found dead, though no living residents remain.
The Navy reported that hull portions of the USS Scorpion were found about 400 miles southwest of the Azores at depths over 10 000 feet. The find ends a five month search with 99 crew members presumed lost and a court of inquiry reassembled at Norfolk to determine the loss cause.
Viet Cong gunners fired at least seven rockets into Saigon on the eve of South Vietnam’s National Day. Initial reports say two dead and four wounded, including children near a school, with additional blasts near the Independence Palace and Cholon district. US military officials warned casualties may rise as helicopter gunships and artillery responded.

Final jurisdiction will be determined by local or federal authorities.
A state by state AP survey shows Democrats leading in 231 districts, Republicans 180, with 24 tossups. If the House decides the president, the result would hinge on state delegations, as 26 state votes are needed to win. Nixon, Humphrey, and Wallace each have outlined potential state-level support.
