An AP report from Augusta Georgia states six airmen died when two aircraft collided during maneuvers. Fire crews found three bodies in each plane, which then caught fire after crashing into a field.
A year after the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum explosion that killed 74, Indianapolis residents recall the tragedy as trick-or-treating returns. Witnesses describe the immediate blast, smoke, and collapse while rescue crews battled fire and debris and survivors recount chaos and loss.
A grand jury linked careless safety to a deadly explosion at the Indianapolis Coliseum. Police fire and civil defense crews from eight communities aided救. Washington reports the United States condemns Cambodian border forces for shooting down an unarmed American C123 transport last week, killing eight. The Viet Nam government in Saigon issued a communique urging Cambodians to warn and land before using anti-aircraft guns if the plane did not comply. The State Department notes the aircraft crossed the Viet Nam Cambodia border during a mission supporting South Viet Nam against the Viet Cong, but calls the act precipitous and non justified while reaffirming U.S. respect for Cambodian independence and neutrality.
Philadelphia police report a robbery where a store cashier confronted a hold up man. The cashier produced an unknown object or action that deterred the suspect and prevented a theft. No injuries reported and investigation ongoing.
A man entered a drugstore, laid a revolver on the counter, and demanded cash from cashier Nathan Levitt, 68. Levitt drew a .32 caliber pistol from under the counter, they faced off, the intruder retrieved his revolver, then fled.
In Cincinnati area Harry Noble 36 of Sharonville shot and killed himself after attempting to shoot his estranged wife Myra Noble 35 of Finneytown. Police say he wounded her in a tavern before shooting himself.
The New China News Agency reported that Communist China and Zambia have agreed to set up formal diplomatic relations and exchange ambassadors, marking a new phase in their bilateral ties.
Police say thieves who hit the American Museum of Natural History in New York removed the Star of India and 21 other gems valued at more than 300000 dollars. Security was lax with seven guards on duty and two unused alarm systems. The Star of India weighs 563.35 carats and is valued at 100000 dollars though considered priceless.
Senator Barry Goldwater shrugs off polls showing him behind as he campaigns across the South in a grueling 80,000 mile push. He cites favorable issue sampling and predicts victory despite low standings and hostile crowds in Cheyenne and Los Angeles.
President Johnson vows a war on waste in government and war economies. He prepared remarks from Dover Delaware and schedules rallies in Wilmington Nassau County and Madison Square Garden New York. Abbott indicted for first degree murder by Hamilton County Grand Jury.
