Tired interns show more errors on long shifts study finds
A Harvard led study reports interns on 30 hour shifts made 36 percent more serious medical errors and five times more diagnostic mistakes than on short 16 hour shifts. Sleep monitors showed 5.5 nods per long shift versus 2.6 overnight. Brigham and Women's Hospital reduced hours and faces cost and policy implications.

Peterson murder trial ends further testimony to close
Jurors in the Scott Peterson murder case were sent home to return Monday for closing arguments after prosecutors and defense lawyers decided against calling more witnesses. Judge Delucchi read four statements into the record and noted both sides agreed to end testimony despite earlier plans for eight witnesses. The statements touched on concrete work at a neighbor’s home, an email from the couple’s computer, a store receipt, and a San Francisco Bay printout, with no clear link to the case described. Peterson is charged with murdering his pregnant wife around Christmas Eve 2002 and dumping her body in San Francisco Bay. His defense contends someone else killed her. Delucchi scheduled the verdict date for Nov. 3.
