Cassini Eyes Titan On Closest Moon Flyby At 745 Miles
PASADENA Calif The U S European Cassini spacecraft heads toward its nearest Titan encounter to date with a 745 mile approach. The mission aims to test claims Titan hosts methane and ethane oceans while preparing 45 Titan flybys and a separate atmospheric probe to descend in January. Titan is larger than Mercury with a dense atmosphere and potential Earthlike organics, though life is unlikely at minus 289 degrees.

Total lunar eclipse to light up Halloween sky
Earthlings will witness a total lunar eclipse for over an hour as Earth’s shadow covers the moon turning it orange red. The event follows the Earth sun line and will be visible across the Americas tonight and Europe and western Africa early Thursday. NASA notes eclipses help study Earth’s atmosphere with volcanic ash darkening the moon. Mount St Helens activity could brighten the view. The next total eclipse is not until March 2007.
