AP report from Washington notes Peter M. Luerutz aged 97 faced a traffic hearing after a collision while attempting a right turn. He has driven since 1964 in Michigan, now ordered to attend traffic school after testifying he misjudged the turn.
London AP reports the British government calls a unilateral declaration of independence by Rhodesia treason and rebellion. Prime Minister Ian Smith plans a Nov. 5 referendum amid chiefs favoring independence, but Britain says such a move would not be recognized and would cut ties with the Commonwealth.
Goldwater accuses President Johnson of fanning race and religious fears to secure a White House victory. He calls Johnson power hungry and warns Tennessee voters that the 1964 race could yield raw, naked power. The Bristol stop follows a Madison Square Garden rally in New York City before 18,000 fans.
Washington AP reports a Senate subcommittee contends televised crime and violence contribute to juvenile delinquency though not as the sole cause. The statement ties media exposure to youth behavior concerns amid policy debate.
Cambodia accused three Cambodian air force planes of bombing near a Vietnamese border area in the Plain of Reeds. The Cambodians warned of breaking diplomatic ties with the United States and recognizing North Vietnam and the Viet Cong front if American and South Vietnamese forces attack Cambodia again. The incident follows a captured U.S. officer and two Vietnamese militiamen found dead after a Viet Cong raid from across the border. The U.S. regards the Towery case as closed. About 1 inmates were idle in the prison laundry and workshops as talks with strike spokesmen yielded grievances about brutality, money and time off credits, and commissary variety. Pepersack dismissed some complaints but said one guard might be reassigned for safety. He pledged to consider the listed grievances while inmates returned to their shops after dinner.
Thirty slow moving liquor items at state stores will have markups cut from 28 percent to 10 percent or less. Flavored vodka, a corn whisky once sold in quart jars and other unpopular bourbons remain excluded. One item Voodoo rum based beverage drops below 10 percent. it will be sold at 1.95 a fifth and 95 cents a pint as officials aim to clear shelves for holiday business.
After days of rioting in Khartoum and surrounding areas President Ibrahim Abboud announced plans to end military rule by dissolving the eight-general Supreme Military Council and the cabinet. In Cincinnati Hamilton County grand jury expected to hear about 40 witnesses in the case of nurse Wanda Cook 24 of Bellevue Ky murdered in mid October. Robert R Abbott 20 of Dayton Ky charged with first degree murder admits lunch with Miss Cook but denies killing her. Ewing Alice 22 of Fort Thomas Ky fiancee of Abbott is among potential witnesses. Police say Cook’s body was placed in a trunk and checked as baggage en route to Cleveland where it was found Oct 22. The motive remains unknown and a small caliber pistol is sought. Divers search Kentucky lakes for the weapon.
Rumors from prison grapevine claim ringleaders of last Friday night’s riot at the medium security facility plotted a fresh uprising for Monday night, heightening security concerns and inmate movement restrictions.

GM resumed 1965 model production after a month-long strike. Flint Michigan led the revival with Buick and Chevrolet plants recalling about 35,000 idled workers. GM expects full restoration but cannot estimate when all 360,000 will return. many local issues remain unresolved.
