Ohio style tax revolters take case to voters
Ohio backers of a California style tax revolt form a committee led by State Rep James E Betts to gather signatures for a November 1979 ballot. The plan would cap spending by population, adjust for inflation, and enshrine the 10 percent property tax rollback in the Ohio Constitution. It would restrict state mandates on local governments unless fully funded, allow a two thirds legislative approval during emergencies, and use any unspent funds for a budget stabilization fund.

Columbia Gas seeks new customers in 1979 expansion
Columbia Gas of Ohio plans to expand service to new customers by spring 1979 and will request permission from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio early next year. Spokesman Joe Gillette says the utility expects enough natural gas to meet a winter up to 11 times colder than normal and that world supplies could last 50 years with more discoveries anticipated.

City drivers crash more often. youths hit harder
In Columbus, the Ohio Insurance Institute reports city drivers have higher crash rates than rural and suburban drivers. Among age groups, drivers under 20 see about one in five involved in an accident, versus one in 11 for ages 20 to 34 and one in 21 for ages 65 and older.
