Tor a hidden from Soviets arrives in New York
A 150-year-old Torah hidden for decades in the former Soviet Union was paraded through New York on Sunday toward its new home at a Brooklyn synagogue. Hundreds of former Soviet Jews sang in multiple languages as the scroll, draped under a bridal canopy, moved to the Friends of Refugees of Eastern Europe Synagogue. Sonya Davidov, 68, recalled how the Torah was kept in a closet behind clothes and carried weekly to Sabbath services. she donated the scroll.

Air ambulance crash near San Diego kills five
