Navy Storekeeper Recounts Dual Life in Vietnam Myth
Navy storekeeper Jerry Silver hid his Viet Nam duties from his parents for 14 months by claiming to be on Formosa. He regaled them with tales while serving at Da Nang and on deep water piers, narrowly escaping worry as a typhoon battered Nationalist China. His mother feared a sudden letter from the storm, while Red Cross later traced his actual location. Now in reserve status, Silver plans to finish college in psychology or sociology.
