Stewart appeals conviction in insider trading case

Martha Stewart’s lawyers urged the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn her conviction for lying about a stock sale, saying prosecutors and the trial judge portrayed her as charged with insider trading. They argued public leaks created an uncharged crime impression, while prosecutors linked a secret tip to her ImClone stock sale on December 27, 2001, shortly before a negative report spurred a price drop. Sam Waksal pleaded guilty to insider trading.
