Five held on federal drug charges in Ohio case

Five suspects including two Dayton men Samuel Hernandez 29 Jose Hernandez 25 and others from Middletown Medway and Apodaca Nuevo Leon Mexico remain jailed awaiting arraignment on federal conspiracy to distribute marijuana and cocaine charges. authorities seized about 20 pounds of cocaine 30 pounds of marijuana in addition to cash 112000 and 26000 counterfeit money from a Huber Heights home along with six firearms and six vehicles. The operation involved multiple agencies including the FBI Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and local sheriff and police offices marking the first case after southern Ohio joined the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program to gain federal support.

Middletown native prepares armor upgrade for Humvees

Former Middletown resident Maj. Tom Shetter, now with the Colorado Air National Guard, will lead six volunteers to armor about 100 Humvees in Iraq and Southwest Asia using up armor kits from O’Gara Hess & Eisenhardt of Fairfield. The mission, starting Oct. 27, could last four to five months, with previous overseas service in 2003.
