The Senate rejected Nixon on two fronts. It voted 52 to 12 to override his veto of a $24.6 billion water pollution control bill and backed limits on his spending powers. House action was anticipated to seek a two thirds override.

He arrives after a secret Paris meeting with North Vietnam as Abrams and other U S and Vietnamese officials assess military means and political options.
Rescue workers search a massive wreckage pile after a 100 foot high freeway bridge collapsed two miles north of the Rose Bowl. Three men are missing, six workers injured severely, fifteen with minor injuries. Authorities order a three agency investigation as crews labored through the night under floodlights.
Middletown Hospital Auxiliary and Coopera tion launch Meals on Wheels on October 30 with two daily meals for immobile residents. Five days a week at $3.30, funding aided by Lions Club and Women's Club donations. Initial 10 clients, rising to 40, with volunteers and drivers needed to meet demand.
