Liquor by the drink becomes legal in Virginia today aboard the Chesapeake-Ohio railway train No. 41. Cocktails will be on the menu when the train leaves Newport News. The railway won a license because its tracks pass through Bath County, the only locality here with local option since 1968.
The Soldiers and Sailors Civil Relief Act allows courts to reduce or postpone a service member s obligations like loans and leases, protecting morale while avoiding total discharge of debts. A furniture dealer sought repossession from a soldier who had defaulted before enlistment, making relief unlikely.
An Akron man and his wife are jailed in Arkansas on murder charges for the fatal shooting of W B Bardwell of Gilmore. They were later sought on a warrant in Ohio charging assault with a dangerous weapon. Bardwell’s body was found in a car along Interstate 55 near West Memphis, Arkansas.
