The governor questioned local representatives and heard from engineers about the route’s impact on development and traffic.

A Memphis trucker started a $395 ornate watch in layaway in 1944 and kept paying small sums over years. By Christmas 1944 he owed $162.44. payments total $283.91 to date, but he stopped after a $2.50 January payment. Mrs. Hilda M. Reiss plans to keep the watch, awaiting redemption that may never come.
