Hinsdale County Colorado, the size of Rhode Island, has only 202 residents and no factories, banks, jail, or high school. Tourism, sheep and cattle ranching sustain a tax base with most revenue going to education. residents rely on long bus rides to Gunnison for schooling and private funding supports a small ski area. The area features nine resorts near Lake City, ghost towns, and a rugged landscape cut by the Continental Divide while remaining financially stable despite minimal population and infrastructure.
