Records Congress To Be Political Issue
The 81st Congress nears the end of its first session with its record set to be a major political issue next year. Supporters call it remarkable for domestic progress and foreign stance while Republicans label it poorly organized. Key domestic bills passed include housing, rent control, reorganization, crop insurance, public works planning, and hospital aid. The Senate rejected two major nominations and no decisive action has occurred on social security expansion, Taft Hartley repeal, education aid, or civil rights. The record may change with a final year.
