CG&E seeks higher rate increase for outside Cincinnati areas

Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co faces another electric rate rise for customers outside Middletown and certain Butler and Warren counties. CG&E says its new request would exceed the earlier $11 million plan, detailing a $7.53 million hike among unincorporated areas in Butler, Warren, Preble and nearby counties.

CG&E seeks rehearing on Ohio utility rate ruling

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio approved Today Inside rates in September with bills based on new rates from Oct 4. CG&E asked yesterday for a rehearing to raise its allowed return from 7.21 percent toward 8.8 to 9.7 percent, arguing last month’s 7.53 million increase is too low. The company noted the decision followed a two year plus process and affects 132 000 CG&E customers across eight counties.

Tired of rhetoric calves slaughtered in price protest

AP report from Curtiss Wisconsin details a low cattle price protest by farmers who killed 636 calves with NFO and 22 more by Buena Vista Beef Growers near Wisconsin Rapids. They complain feed costs rose while veal prices plunged from 90 to 125 dollars per head to about 17 cents per pound. The NFO offered meat to the needy via Edgar Wisconsin and Dubuque Iowa slaughterhouses but the plan was rejected. Reverend Whitcomb criticized the call to kill.

Camp Atterbury closes amid amnesty deserter flow shift

Indianapolis AP Camp Atterbury ends operations after processing about 1,200 Vietnam era deserters under Ford amnesty. Deserters now move to Ft. Benjamin Harrison 30 miles away, which can house 300, while Atterbury handled up to 600. Fort Harrison’s time to process drops to under a day as manpower shifts back to Indiana National Guard.

Congress approves relaxations on seat belt interlocks

Congress backs changes allowing 1975 car models to omit seat belt interlocks and continuous buzzers. The measure also lets distributors dealers and repair shops disconnect interlocks and buzzers. Transportation Dept may require air bags and eight year defect coverage is set. School bus safety standards and Amtrak funding are also touched.
