Dog House Fire Leaves Lancaster Man Critical

A Lancaster man, 57 year old Russell L. Pierce, was burned seriously when a dog house he slept in caught fire. Police say he crawled inside after taking a dog from behind a tavern, lit a cigarette, and trapped himself. Officer Jerry Seesholtz called for help and firefighters freed him after tearing off the roof.

Ohio reports swine flu shots continue after three deaths

Three men died in Ohio after swine flu inoculations prompting county pauses though state health officials urged continuing vaccinations. Names include Clifford Sizemore 64 of Piketon and Clyde G Erbeck 74 of Mason with autopsy pending for virus tests. Clinics in Middletown Butler County and Montgomery County proceeded while Warren County suspended after Erbeck death.

Ford Cleared by Ruff in Campaign Finance Probe

Special Watergate prosecutor Charles Ruff cleared President Ford of wrongdoing in campaign finances during his congressional years. The matter is closed, with counsel for the President advised. Ruff noted FBI Director Kelley alerted DOJ on July 13 to information about alleged misuse of political contributions from 1964 to early 1974.

Weather in Middletown Swanks to 70s Cloudy and Warm

A southwestern Ohio forecast calls for cloudy warm conditions Friday with a 20 percent rain chance tonight. Friday highs reach the 70s after a cool morning with upper 40s. Yesterday's high hit 75 in Middletown and this morning's low was 36.

Americans win Nobel Prizes in Medicine and Economics

The Royal Caroline Institute and the Swedish Academy named three Americans as 1976 Nobel laureates. Baruch S Blumberg of University of Pennsylvania Medical School and D Carleton Gajdusek of Bethesda Maryland were cited for infectious disease mechanisms. Milton Friedman of the University of Chicago won the Economics Prize for consumption analysis monetary history and stabilization policy insights.

Scientists Identify King Tut Grandmother Tiye Mummy

An international team at the University of Michigan says hair analysis and skull X rays confirm the long lost mummy is Queen Tiye, wife of Amenhotep III and mother of Akhenaten. They found a miniature casket with Tiye’s name and matched it to the unidentified mummy.
