Two Hijackers Surrender After Frankfurt Air Hijack

A man and a woman in airline uniforms hijacked a Czechoslovak airliner to Frankfurt airport in West Germany and held 27 hostages for two hours before surrendering to police. The two suspects were taken away for questioning. the remaining Yak 40 passengers were unharmed.

Balloonists Halt Atlantic Crossing Amid Turnaround Winds

Colorado pair Dewey Reinhard and Steve Stephenson aimed to cross the Atlantic in a balloon from Yarmouth Nova Scotia but were turned back by a ground wind shift. Authorities described no immediate danger though the course could shift. An earlier note from ground support director Jack Waeth said the Eagle balloon had crossed Nova Scotia before the wind pushed it south toward the open sea.

Amtrak eyes Ohio routes expansion plan released

Amtrak signals possible service expansion on the Canton to Pittsburgh route and two new corridors Canton to Pittsburgh Youngstown to Cleveland and Cincinnati to Dayton Columbus while outlining a five year plan to buy new cars and locomotives and upgrade stations at a cost over 45 billion dollars with a national route restudy proposed and track work planned across the Northeast and Midwest by 1982.
