Bar Lev Line abandoned as main Suez defense
Israeli Maj. Gen. Aharon Yarif said the Bar Lev Line was a string of reinforced outposts and has been evacuated for a deeper line in Sinai. Officials said the Bar LeV line served its purpose with a mobile defense strategy and a main line about 30 miles inland near Mitla and Giddi passes.
