Mantle's ninth inning homer stuns Cardinals in 2-1 win

New York, AP notes Mantle led off the bottom of the ninth with a homer off Barney Schultz to lift the Yankees to a 2-1 victory and a 2-1 World Series edge. Bouton praised Mantle as he embraced him in the dressing room after the dramatic swing. Berra discussed Ford's sore heel and pitching plans for the upcoming game.

Fire Destroys Lebanon Co-Op and Attic Structures

A large fire destroyed the Lebanon Farmers Co-Op building at 205 S Sycamore St causing about 100000 in damage. Three Lebanon firefighters were injured as eight companies battled the flames for over three hours. Smoke drew spectators from Centerville and Mason as flames spread to nearby storage and grain facilities. No one was inside the co op at start. Fire crews from multiple towns aided under Chief William Rainey. The cause was undetermined last night.

Eddie Cantor Dies at 71 in Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills, AP. Eddie Cantor died of a coronary occlusion at age 71 last Saturday at his home. The long time star had retreated from show business and spent years writing, charitable work and reflecting on his career. Born Izzy Iskowitch in New York, Cantor debuted in 1907 and rose to fame on Broadway then radio and film in the 1930s.
