Eleven boys in El Paso are charged with larceny for the disappearance of $41,000 from six banks. A bank official says the youths apparently strolled out with the cash unnoticed.
About 2,500 men who were the last draftees before the all volunteer force will be home by Thanksgiving. The Army said it released many draftees early to meet enlistment goals, with some remaining until June 30, 1974 if not volunteering to stay longer. Authority to draft expired June 30, 1973. peak draft 552,700 in 1967, and 337,700 volunteers have since joined.
The Defense Department reports 1006 military deserters who joined Ford's conditional amnesty program have been discharged at Camp Atterbury clemency center. Deserters receive undesirable discharges and are sent to a Selective Service office for an alternative service tour. Upon successful completion, they receive a clemency discharge.

Wholesale prices rose just 0.1 percent in September as farm prices fell, offsetting gains in industrial goods. The rate contrasts with July and August surges, with farm products and processed foods dropping 1.9 percent in September after prior July and August increases. The White House forecast food prices climbing at 10 percent or more annually over 18 months.
