A 40 year old widower Hans Joachim Bohlmann confessed to vandalizing nearly a dozen art treasures in West German galleries. He was arrested in Hamburg eight hours after acid was sprayed on Rembrandt works in Kassel. Police described him as emotionally disturbed and linked him to multiple assaults.

American businessman James Sherwood bid $100,000 to acquire two 16 bed sleeping cars for a London Paris Venice itinerary via his Sea Container company. A dining car sold for $58,000 to Intraflug and the final lounge car went to an anonymous buyer named Andre Pacecard for $132,000.
In Youngstown Ohio 26 maintenance employees at U S Steel McDonald Mills offered one day of free repair work to save their jobs. Company official William Ashton declined citing contractual and legal limits while noting ongoing pay for workers. The volunteers belong to Local 1307 United Steelworkers.
