Retardation board faces bus strike in Hamilton County

The Butler County Board of Mental Retardation awarded an eight month contract for transportation services to Transportation Management Services of Fairfield, amid threats of a walkout by six bus drivers who seek better pay and benefits. DAVE Systems had provided service previously, but the bid was about $90,000 higher. County officials cited cost and state requirements as reasons for the change. Commissioners also scheduled public hearings on sewer improvements and noted a federal suit seeking recovery of about $16,000 tied to a 1958 grant for courthouse and jail construction.
