Wedding baptism mishap at The Alps venue in Washington
An outdoor wedding at The Alps above Tumwater Dam went awry when a canoe capsized on the way to the ceremony. Bride Kay Gorman and groom Gene Tubbs, plus a paddler and a dog Smokey, were dumped into the Yakima river. The groom, who cannot swim, was rescued by Archie Marlin who jumped in. The bride and groom arrived 15 minutes late for the service, conducted by the minister who noted it was his first simultaneous baptism and marriage.
