Gilligan Yields on Austerity Finance Decision
Finance Director Harold Hovey said Wednesday he will certify the entire 38.3 million dollars for payment at the request of the Republican dominated State Board. The board previously refused to fund 37.2 million in deductions needed to ensure February liquidity. Senator Robin Turner challenged legality of the cuts, while Hovey and board chairman James Leckrone warned the action jeopardizes the austerity program amid court limits on similar cuts. Turner called Hovey’s February projection misleading and warned of an 82 million dollar surplus by next June.
