Prebleman pleads guilty to murder in Ohio case

Estell Wayne Buck, 55, of Preble County, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder to avoid the death penalty in Warren County Court. He received 20 years to life. Buck admitted shooting William E. Doolittle Jr., a Findlay tool dealer, over a $6,000 tool deal. Doolittle's body was found March 8 in a Monroe parking lot near Traders World. Buck was arrested in June at his Lake Lakengren home. He nearly escaped in Middletown during a dental visit, a deputy stopped him.

Record: U.S. Caesarean deliveries hit new peak in 2003

The National Center for Health Statistics reports 4.1 million births in 2003 with 1.13 million caesarean deliveries or 27.6 percent, up from 26.1 percent in 2002 and a third higher since 1996. Teen births fell while ages 35 to 44 rose. VBACs declined by about 70,000 from 2002.

Judge denies bid for immediate Ohio hand recount

U S District Judge James G Carr in Toledo refused to order an immediate statewide recount of Ohio ballots. He said the candidates had a right to a recount under state law but that it could wait until the final stages of certification. Ohio officials expect certification by December 6.
