Three Buildings Gutted In Pomeroy Fire Loss Estimated

A late night blaze in Pomeroy Ohio gutted three buildings causing about 100000 in damage. Over 100 firefighters from Ohio West Virginia and the U S Coast Guard contained the fire without injuries. Fifteen Meigs General Hospital patients were evacuated to Meigs Memorial Hospital. The fire began from sparks from a welder s torch in a brick building housing Meigs Equipment Co and an Ohio Aid to the Aged office. All Aid to the Aged records for Meigs County were destroyed. The adjacent six family frame building and a shoe repair shop were also ruined.

Lima Fire Destroys Three Buildings

All off-duty Lima firemen were recalled after two separate fires caused $15,000 in damage at a junkyard where three buildings were destroyed. A 200 foot long sheet metal shed burned, with wind spreading embers to two frame houses used for storage, both gutted. A second fire broke out at the city dump as firefighters fought the first blaze. No injuries were reported.

Fire destroys two Steubenville downtown businesses

In Steubenville Ohio a three story brick building housing Bidding's Auto Store and Hausted's Electronic firm burned Friday with damage pegged at 125000. Firemen including off duty personnel fought the two hour blaze. Two firefighters were slightly injured and a double amputee living above the stores was rescued.

Kate Hakill 103 Dies Not Stay in Bed Hospital Visit

In Redondo Beach California 103 year old spinster Kate Hakill was hospitalised for the first time since age seven after a hip fracture from a rug slip. She resisted bed rest insisting she wanted to get up and tour the halls. A 104th birthday party was planned for Sunday.

Cease Fire Proposal Questioned by Indian Foreign Ministry

In New Delhi India asked Red China to clarify points of its cease fire offer to settle the undeclared Himalayan border war. Foreign Secretary M. J. Missed Flight Bank Opened Late Saving Two Lives

Connecticut author Ladislas Farago and his 11 year old son narrowly escaped a United Flight 297 crash near Ellicott City after a New York bank delayed opening for an audit saving them from the Newark departure. Farago had changed plans due to the bank opening at 10 and canceled the 10:35 flight. He and his son instead took a later Eastern flight arriving in time to hear of the disaster. Farago said this was the second near-death event in a week. He credited luck and a higher force.
