Ohio faces mass layoffs from auto slump and coal strike

Thousands of Ohio workers lose jobs as General Motors halts Vega and other plants in Lordstown Warren and Cleveland areas. The United Mine Workers strike idles about 12 000 coal miners and reduces steel mill operations across the state. Caramanlis Clinches Landslide Greek Parliamentary Victory

Premier Constantine Caramanlis and his New Democracy party led a decisive win in Greece's List parliamentary election. With about 75 percent of votes counted, New Democracy held 55.5 percent, likely clearing a majority of over 100 seats in the 300-seat parliament. The Center Union ranked second at 20 percent, followed by Andreas Papandreou's PASOK at 13.5 percent and the United Left at 8.4 percent.

Ohio teachers file unemployment claims as Chippewa district closes

DOYLESTOWN Ohio AP teachers seek unemployment in Wooster after the Chippewa School District closed due to a voter rejected levy. A fund drive aimed to raise 70 000 but halted at 41 000 with 33 500 raised 16 000 cash. If 26 November noon target met schools would reopen December 2.
