Being Treated In Hospital Mrs Gibbs To Appeal Manslaughter Conviction
Mrs Pauline Gibbs, found guilty yesterday of first degree manslaughter in the Sept. 9 fatal shooting of her husband Rollie Gibbs in Preble County, collapsed in Fort Hamilton Hospital Hamilton and lies in a coma. Her lawyers will file a motion for a new trial Monday before Judge Kiracole in Eaton. sentencing is deferred pending that motion. The verdict came after testimony largely from Deputy Sheriff Folk Smith who said Gibbs admitted shooting him while he slept, a claim Gibbs disputed. Neighbors and four of her children testified to years of abuse by Gibbs. Gibbs attended Middletown High School and worked locally. Gibbs was a Sorg Paper Co. foreman considered one of the best.
