The FBI final 1974 crime report shows murder, robbery and theft rising sharply with over 20,000 killed and $2.6 billion stolen. Teens account for about a third of arrests among 10 million crimes, while firearms figure prominently in violent crimes.

Food price volatility seen to persist into the decade

An Agriculture Department economist says food prices will remain volatile for years due to weather and grain imports. Kenneth R. Farrell notes natural disasters cause price swings, with 1972 to 1974 rises of 4.5 and 14.5 percent respectively and forecasts 9 percent for all of 1975, then 4 to 5 percent in early 1976.

The 1,000 page report recommends limiting disclosures to statistical uses, noting presidents can still order access. Since 1920 agencies have increasingly obtained returns for various purposes.
