Elevator Death Sparks Probe Into Door Interlock
In Cincinnati a faulty electric interlock on the H. and S. Pogue elevator door is blamed for the death of Mrs. Lydia Humphreys of Middletown who was crushed Tuesday. Elevator inspector Albin Brune said the interlock failure allowed the car to move while the door was open. Edith Stewart, 23, an elevator operator, is in hospital in hysterics and unable to give a clear account. City officials and store proprietors vow investigations and safety reviews to prevent recurrence.
