Five men were shot dead in a quiet Queens Italian-American restaurant on a Friday night. Police identified victims as Thomas D Angelo 54 James D Angelo 60 and Frank Terelli 43. The killer fled through a rear door after the massacre, amid fears of gang land friction.
Hulbert Taft Jr a leading broadcasting executive and Taft family member dies in an explosion that wrecked a bomb shelter on his Indian Hill estate. Authorities report a smell of gas detected at the scene and say the cause is under investigation. the shelter held bottled gas.

The unofficial 2501 vote Stokes lead has fallen to 1519 as Cuya hoga County records are tallied. The Plain Dealer cited three miscounts cutting 982 votes in one third of precincts. errors included reversed figures for Stokes and Taft and a misread 1 before the Stokes total. If unchanged, Stokes would be sworn in Monday.
