Needle in Man's Heart Baffles LA Police

A 35 year old cabinet maker Peter Pivaroff died in a Los Angeles hospital after X rays showed a one and a half inch needle penetrated his heart between the fourth and fifth ribs. Dr. Frederick D. Newbarr said another puncture was found between the seventh and eighth ribs. Police said the wife stated he had drunk heavily recently and denied a fight. The daughter Diana identified the needle as one she borrowed for a Halloween costume. Authorities seek to determine how the needle was inserted and by whom.

Burke recount demand tied to local Hamilton County issue

U S Senator Thomas A Burke seeks a county wide ballot recount in Hamilton County from the November 2 election. He filed 1192 affidavits claiming irregularities and called for a public hearing. A city charter committee leader says a proportional representation issue was decided by about 350 votes, prompting a possible recount. The Hamilton County tally shows George Bender winning the senate race by 37 296 votes with 134 727 to 97 431 Burke. State totals are not yet finished.
