Faulkner and Russell Win Nobel Prizes in Literature

American novelist William Faulkner and British philosopher Bertrand Russell were named Nobel laureates in literature for 1949 and 1950. Faulkner, of Oxford Mississippi, and Russell, aged 78, were chosen from over 50 candidates and will receive the prizes from King Gustaf VI Adolf at the Nobel Foundation’s 50th anniversary celebration on December 10.
