A federal suit alleges a $64 million stock fraud touching thirty-one corporations and individuals. Defendants include Ohio Real Estate Investment Co and Ohio Commerce Director Dennis Shaul. Plaintiffs accuse officers of conflict of interest and officials of knowledge without action.
Welfare Finance Corp and its subsidiary National Finance Co filed bankruptcy petitions in Cincinnati, claiming debts amid a $100 million lawsuit against Ohio Commerce Director Dennis Shaul. The firms say actions by the Ohio Division of Securities halted 8 percent certificates and registration halts across their multi-state operations.
Gov. Gilligan said the Ohio EPA strike force will target eliminating sanitary sewer overflows into Lake Erie. The program will help communities along the lake separate sanitary and storm sewers to improve water quality after a three year study linked wet weather to degraded lake conditions. Beach water quality improved at 23 beaches since 1971.
