An off duty city fireman Richard Holder Jr 28 was held for investigation after his wife Eloise Holder 21 was shot dead in their bedroom at their home. Police said Holder claimed the gun fired accidentally as he played with a .22 revolver after returning with groceries.
A. J. Lane who used the name Jack Keen lived lawfully in Ohio after escaping a Georgia prison. He sought pardon or parole, Georgia issued a fugitive warrant, and he was arrested in Akron and bonded for extradition. Lane previously escaped in 1934 after a robbery attempt and served time in Georgia before escaping again.
Western leaders awaited Molotov at Geneva as he returned from Moscow with hints of new proposals. Observers see softened Soviet opposition to German reunification and possible easing of mood on aerial inspections, despite continued calls for a prompt ban on atomic weapons. Molotov said Moscow was not built in a day and predicted East West agreement possible at Geneva.

Mary Moss Falcon of Violet was booked with murder after the deaths of William Baughman Jr. and Lawrence Baughman, seven and six, reportedly poisoned by phosphorous. The case followed a September quarrel in which Falcon allegedly promised to get even, while the boys’ parents faced neglect charges.
CAB official says investigators examine evidence of a bomb like explosion that shattered the rear luggage hold of the United Air Lines jet near Longmont Colorado killing 44 on November 1. Luggage smelled acrid like gunpowder. tail section remained largely intact with no sign of aircraft malfunction.
Chicago police linked a car with more than 300 bullet holes to owner Herbert Schmidt 22 after tracing license plates. Schmidt, employed by a photo static company, says he fired the holes himself last year after returning from a hunting trip empty-handed.
Paul Wirths, a 23 year old German refugee, told detectives he broke into the Woodward estate and moved through the house before the fatal shot. Police say the investigation remains thorough and no conclusions are drawn yet about the Woodward death.
Phoenix officers pursue a publicized lead in the Willie Bioff death bomb case. Sheriff Boies says an underworld bomb expert may have been in Phoenix when Bioff died, with an arrest order issued for the suspect. William Savoie, a New Orleans bricklayer, admitted fabricating a $10 000 tip about a killer named Charles Scarish in Ohio. Mrs Bioff viewed her husband's mangled body and will attend a coroner's inquest.
A South Korean P51 fighter plane crashed into a school building in Kyang-Ju near Taegu during a training sortie. The pilot was killed along with eight children, and about 30 people were injured as four classrooms were destroyed.
Early turnout in Middletown archives show a 64 percent rate among 8,664 of 13,500 registered voters by 10 am with expectations of 9,200 to 9,500 total as noon and pre-close totals boost turnout. Mechanical issues at Lincoln School slowed some but were fixed later.
