Ten year old Michael Young of Franklin suffered a hip fracture last August and used crutches. On Beggars Night his mother displayed a bag with a sign asking for treats for a boy unable to go out. Beggars stopped, filled the bag with candy, and Michael's sack filled quickly.
Dr. RB Parke of the University of Wisconsin spoke at Miami University on early experiences and social processes of punishment in child raising. He noted 9 percent of parents use physical punishment, stressing timing, intensity, and warmth affect outcomes and that reasoned punishment can strengthen parent child bonds.

At Dayton conference the Ohio State Grange chose James Ross of Muskegum County as Master for two years. Delegates outlined policy goals including tax changes, welfare reform, farm labeling, weed control, road funding, school prayer, gun and liquor stance, and opposition to certain foreign trades and Sunday alcohol sales.
The Masters Trio a Middletown gospel group served as special singers at Overpeck Missionary Church Sunday. Pastor Rev. Robert Lauberstein led the worship service.
Andrea Buehner daughter of Mr and Mrs William Buehner served as a delegate from the local Seventh Day Adventist Church to a youth Bible conference held at Mount Vernon recently.
