Adlai E Stevenson charged in Wilkes-Barre that President Eisenhower has not known or cared what occurred in his administration amid stalled relief for distressed areas. He accused the administration of killing a distressed areas bill and refused to consider the president's own proposal. He asked, Who's in charge here? The Missouri trip was part of his drive for Pennsylvania's 32 electoral votes and he contrasted Nixon's rhetoric with looser language he deemed unbecoming.

Murders and suicide shock tenant farmer family

Rufus A. King, 35, killed his six children and then himself with a .22 rifle and shotgun, after numerous spats with his wife. Two deputies found the children’s bodies, and King’s body was found in a nearby cornfield. The massacre occurred as a mass funeral is planned with burials in Clinton.
