Canada’s First Heart Transplant May Live

In Montreal, a 59 year old butcher became Canada’s first heart transplant patient as surgeons at the Montreal Heart Institute grafted a donor heart from a 38 year old woman who died of a stroke into Albert Murphy. The donor’s death preceded the operation. Dr. Pierre Grondin led the team with Dr. Paul David noting the heart beat in a satisfactory rhythm. The operation marks the 18th global heart transplant, following Dr. Christiaan Barnard’s landmark procedure last December.

OSU coed in hospital under guard over arson charge

Harriet Frances Leeb an 18 year old OSU freshman from South Euclid faces arson charges in a May 22 Lincoln Tower dorm fire that killed two coeds and injured 14. She was hospitalized under guard after waiving a 25000 cash bond and being moved from Franklin County Jail to Ingleside Hospital Cleveland. The case follows a prior Morrill Tower fire with no injuries under investigation. Leeb had a recent history of emotional problems and psychiatric treatment.

In Louisville's West End, arrests exceed 400 amid scattered looting and sniping during a fourth straight night of racial disorder. Racism Can Be Stopped In School Psychologist

Charlotte based study by Dr. Louis Diamant of UNC Charlotte shows white children in integrated kindergartens may develop little racial prejudice even with prejudiced parenting. Using white and black dolls with 60 private kindergarteners, Diamant found no significant differences in doll family recognition and none of the prejudiced or high IQ children rejected the black doll. He argues early integration allows natural development without racial bias despite home influences.
