Ohio Penitentiary Inmate Freed After Sentence Reclassified
George W. Caudill, an Ohio Penitentiary inmate, was released after a Common Pleas Court ruled his 1962 sentence for operating a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent was improperly imposed. Judge Charles R. Petree noted a 1961 statute change capped penalties at a $500 fine and six months, invalidating the earlier one-to-20 year term from Hamilton County.
