Boy cannot sing Gospel at school in district dispute
Billy Shane Roark six year old kindergarten pupil at Rosedale Elementary is barred from performing at the June Recognition Day Assembly because his Gospel music violates school policy and a legal advisory. Principal Richard Gehm cites policy against sectarian religious content in public schools while superintendent Samuel Dalton supports the decision. Roark argues the move targets his son and Gospel singing, saying the school should allow self expression and noting the boy has performed widely and will have a forthcoming album.
