Draft Of Burke For Mayor Hinted In Cleveland
Cleveland Mayor Thomas A. Burke may face a draft for a fifth term despite his claim he is not a candidate. Friends say he remains popular and could be persuaded to run, a notion that unsettles Republicans who have not held the mayoralty since 1941. Burke declined to discuss the possibility. He stated he is not a candidate for re election as mayor. The political chatter centers on whether Burke will break his own stance. Lausche, now governor, defeated Blythin in 1941, and Burke followed Lausche in 1945.

Veto Looms Over Ohio Jobless Pay Bill
Gov. Lausche signals likely veto as Senate approves a bill raising unemployment benefits to 30 a week with a 120 million distribution for employers. He calls the move imprudent and wrong, arguing the fund mostly comes from inactive or out of business employers and cannot be credited to active employers.
