Final Approval Given First National Monroe Merger
The currency comptroller in Washington wired final approval Thursday of the consolidation of Middletown's First National and the Monroe National banks, announced by Calvin Verity president of the First National. The Monroe Bank will become a branch of the First National on June 1 with new officers installed after the approval. The merger expands assets and loans in the region, consolidating histories dating to 1865 for First National and 1905 for Monroe National, and forming a larger financial institution serving Middletown and surrounding communities.
