Four Veterans Held For Embezzling Checks In Manila

Manila police detained four American veterans linked to an international ring that fraudulently increased U S treasury checks. Charles Clarence James Hanley Walter E Mason and Carlos Moore Turner, former service members, posted 10 000 pesos bail each on charges of attempted embezzlement through falsified documents. Police say Clarence and Hanley passed a check to an undercover agent in a Manila restaurant from a list of 16 checks the U S government had warned Philippine authorities about. The forged amount rose from 1.37 to 1374 44 dollars.

Three Killed in Dynamite Blast at Quarry

An explosion at the Auglaize limestone quarry near Defiance, Ohio killed three men and injured one as dynamite was loaded into 18 drilled holes. Victims were Lloyd Garrison, 35, of Findlay. Charles Yenser, 49, of Junction, and his brother Roy Yenser, 59, who lived at the quarry. The quarry lies 11 miles south of Defiance along the Auglaize River in Paulding County.

Plane siege as Air Force vet storms cockpit in Fresno

John O'Reilly a 28 year old Los Altos gear grinder on an Oakland to Fresno flight unleashed a gun siege lasting about 30 minutes. He threatened passengers fired a weapon blasted a window with a fire extinguisher and forced an emergency landing. He was detained for assault with a deadly weapon and possibly a psychiatric examination. Police and deputies took him into custody after the landing.
