In a NBC TV exchange Democratic National Chairman Paul Butler urged President Eisenhower to participate in a television debate, while GOP Chairman Leonard Hall dismissed the idea. No Copperhead- Just Milk Snake

Butler County residents can relax after a three-foot copperhead was identified as a Northern Milk snake by local experts. Herpetologists Charlie Garrett and Joe Smith confirmed the misidentification, noting the creature lacked venom fangs. Homer Fullen plans to donate the body to a science class.

Akron teen held after fatal shooting of mother in accidental quarrel

John Kenneth Frank, 16, told police he retrieved a .22 pistol from his room and fired while attempting to quiet a quarrel between his parents after a party at Akron Municipal Airport. Mother Anna E. Frank, 43, died of a heart wound at St. Thomas Hospital. Frank, Garfield High sophomore, faced Juvenile Court in Summit County with his father Phillip R. Frank, an aviation mechanic. Negro Pair Arrested In Bus Dispute

In Tallahassee two African American women Wilhelmina Jakes a 26 and Carrie Patterson a 20 refused to move to the rear of a city bus and were arrested for creating a riot risk. Bus driver Max Coggins halted the bus and summoned police. They posted 25 dollar bonds and face a City Police Court hearing on June 1 under a local ordinance enforcing a state seating law on intrastate buses.

Lifer Stabs Guard Then Flees Ohio Prison Farm

James Esson, a convicted murderer serving life for the 1948 slaying of George Margulis, stabbed a guard in a truck on the London Prison Farm roads and escaped. Two other honor inmates fled the dairy barn. Eckle said no link to Esson’s escape. Guard Ray Gordon hospitalized with non life threatening injuries. Esson’s escape triggers statewide alert.

Whisky trailer fire near Newark destroys 67 barrels

A trailer carrying 67 fifty gallon barrels of green whisky burned on U S 40 east of Brownsville early today. Driver Charles White 46 of Dillsburg Indiana detached the truck to save the rig. Cargo was en route from Seagram Corp Lawrenceburg Indiana to Meadville Pennsylvania.

Fatal two-car crash west of Asheville on US 19

Two drivers were killed instantly in a head on collision on U. S. highway 19 23, twelve miles west of Asheville, North Carolina. Victims were James H. Page, 27, Gastonia, and Edward C. Smythe, 47, Canton. Smythe’s car swerved into the left lane of a three lane highway and struck the Page vehicle.
