Commissioners reject hike in relief payments
Butler County Commissioners denied a welfare board request to raise general relief payments from 41 to 43 dollars monthly. Welfare Director Wilma Ruth noted the extra 2 dollars per recipient would total about 2 thousand dollars annually, partly reimbursed by the state. President Donald Schirmer opposed the measure, saying the aim is to reduce welfare dependence. The board also took under advisement a Madison Township annexation request for about 151 acres by Martin Farms Inc to the city of Trenton, with no public opposition.
